Preparing for my last Gieschen play

A Column by Mikayla Baumgarte

Keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming spring play “Star Wreck,” also known as the Gieschen play! Every year biology teacher, Christopher Gieschen, writes and directs a play that hits the stage in May.

In my four years at CLHS, I’ve done all of the spring plays as well as some plays here and there directed by Chris Murphy and some guest directors. Every single play I’ve done has been an amazing experience, but I’ve noticed that there is just something different about Gieschen’s plays.

Every single play Gieschen directs he fills with crazy puns. The atmosphere is always filled with laughter because you really can’t take all the puns you’re saying seriously. Being a part of all of Gieschen’s plays since 2014, has made my high school drama experience extra exciting.

While I’ve never watched a Gieschen play (because I’ve always been in them), I can tell the audience enjoys them from all of the roars of laughter and groans at the ridiculous jokes and puns.

This year Gieschen is directing a spoof of “Star Trek” and “Star Wars” called “Star Wreck.” I play the Commander of the Clingeeze. I’m very excited to hop right into the play and enjoy starring in my last Gieschen play.

Check out “Star Wreck” at 7:30 p.m. May 6 and at 2 p.m. May 7.
